The Envoys

Drowned as witch-children, stolen as conscripts, thrown from the sky at the last — and still a blue arm washed ashore to take up Alca's keeping.

Blight of Blue, No Human Hue

An Envoy is a warrior with the Fey in one arm and the sea in both ears. The right arm is blue, laced with arcane carvings, and it takes Pacts: the gathered essence of Omen Beasts, of deities, of Fey, of other Envoys, worn upon the arm like a second self. The blue blood beneath that arm is said to be old as Alcan stone. This is the figure the player wears today, walking the shores of Midrath in the Preludes builds — and the name the game's keepers call their whole company of players by, as the sibling archive's people are called Tenno.

The blood came before the honour. In the years before the invader darkened the sky, blue-blooded children were feared, not followed: rounded up, or drowned, lest they grow into witches. The old rhyme of that persecution survives in the grandfather's own telling — blight of blue, no human hue — and the community record keeps a harder whisper besides, implied three times and stated never: that an Envoy may carry no soul at all. Where the sources fall silent, this archive holds the gap open rather than fill it.

By Mother Saved, By Ode Enslaved

Warsongs

The opening Fable, Warsongs, tells it the way a village keeps a bad winter. The night the Ode fell upon Dendria, Castle Kearnhold stood under siege, and its defenders were silenced not by steel but by the enemy's charm-song — the gaunting spellsong that empties a head of its own history. One infant went out of the burning in a basket, reaching back for its mother with a small blue arm already carved with runes. By mother saved; by grandfather raised on the western shore; and at the last, by the Ode enslaved.

For the Ode do not waste bluebloods. They hollow them with their spellsong and bind them into the Tempest legions, and the community record holds that our own Envoy marched among those conscripts — until Year 925, when the Torque Inquisitor cast them down from the Skytowers. What the enemy threw away, the sea delivered: the castaway came up on the sands of the northern isle of Midrath, remembering little, carrying everything. There the Fable Rise, Envoy begins, playable from the first hour of the Preludes.

The Wyld Three, and First of Thee

Before any human bore the arm there were three, and they were Fey — or so the rhyme is read. Tethren, champion and Commanding Chief of the Solist Warriors, to whom the Empress Alora gave The Ivor, a blade forged from her own femur. Oscelda, the healer-witch renowned in the garden of Eldveil, given The Alder, said to be a finger snapped from her tender hand. Sirin, an assassin without peer, borne of a moonlight pond, for whom The Starling was strung taut with the Empress's own golden eyelash — a gift intended, never given, for Sirin stole it first. Wyld three, and first of thee, the Founders' heralds sing: the virtuous First Envoys, armed from Alora's own body.

At the Felling, when man and Fey made war, all three turned. The Empress herself keeps the count: when Felling Fields burned, her gifts returned — sharp end first. Yet their names are not gone. Every new Envoy still chooses one of the three at a cairn in Rise, Envoy — Tethren for Courage, Oscelda for Spirit, Sirin for Grace — and since the Founders offering of Preludes 12 a player may wear the Wyld three whole. Why they betrayed her, no source will say. The gap stands.

The Work of the Blue Arm

The Shewolf Snared

What is an Envoy for? The official word is plain: to protect Alca and her people from the threat beyond the sky. In practice the work is quieter and stranger — cleansing World Trees of the enemy's ichor, unchaining Omen Beasts, carrying a dead smith's helm and a ghost-scholar's lost quill home to the Nightfold. Mending, not conquering. The arm was never a weapon first. It is a place where the gathered essence of others consents to rest.

And the arm does not choose its keeper's heart. At the TennoCon 2026 devstream the far side of the mirror was shown: Tempest Bayor, a rare red-armed Envoy sworn to the Ode, a raven at his shoulder, arriving with the announced Warsongs Fable in the fall of 2026. The community record adds what the Fables already whisper — that it was Bayor who took our Envoy as a child, and Bayor who carries off the wolf-pup Nightling at the close of The Shewolf Snared. One blue arm washed ashore; one red arm still rides with the invaders. Between those two arms, Envoy, runs the whole war.
