This accession is about the reading rather than the read: the fold folded properly for a hand, the rootwork made to pan under a thumb instead of shrinking past legibility, and a ribbon at the head of the page for the Envoy who has been away. Not a word of the folios changed. Everything about reaching them did.

The book opens
A fold is a sheltering enclosure, and this one is built for a story still being told. Soulframe is in its Preludes: the clay is wet, and a book of wet clay must be honest about it. So the doctrine, stated at the door: what is playable is told whole and cited to its Fable; what is announced is marked announced; what is rumor is named rumor or left outside. Every claim carries its source, every change is entered below, and every error a reader finds will be corrected and credited. The Spellsong of that other, older empire erases memory. Keeping one is the only argument this book knows how to make.
