The Nightfold
Upon the fabled Silvern Sea there is a fold in the night where the dead keep the hearth warm, the forge lit, and one place set for a living Envoy.
A Fold Against the Night
Rise, EnvoySomewhere upon the fabled Silvern Sea there is a fold in the night, and within it a hearth that does not go cold. The Nightfold is the Envoy's sanctuary, hidden from the Ode and all their hunting iron. The name is a shepherd's word: a fold is where the flock gathers when wolves walk the dark. This fold gathers the dead — and one living guest.
The way was Doyen's gift. The old Envoy raised his grandchild at Rivernest on Midrath's western shore, and led them into the Nightfold while they were still small. Years on, in the Fable Rise, Envoy — playable now, in the form it took in Preludes 12 — the grown Envoy washes ashore with a broken Ode'n arm and finds the door again. In the fold's tent a white shewolf lies sleeping: Orengall, who was there before the story began.
Hearth and Arsenal Both
The Nightfold keeps two fires. One is the hearth, where the Ancestors bide — and know this, Envoy: Ancestor is an honour, not a bloodline. These are souls bound into the land's long memory, and one of them is a camel. Orlick the Bicameral, last of the Pensives, scribes the Journal from his study. Steelsinger Tuvalkane hammers in her smithy, forging and reforging, and since Preludes 15 refining weapons toward legendary heights with Chordstones. Verminia, the drowned witch, brews hues at her cauldron beneath a cloak of rats — her station in the fold opened with The Brewer of Hues, as the Preludes 13 notes tell it. Mestra Carmo, Siren of Coral Graves, keeps her blade sharp. Zenith the Dale Seer camel minds his wares, having asked nobody's leave to be there.
The other fire is the forge-light of the Arsenal, where the Envoy's weapons and Pact arms wait racked and ready. Hearth and armoury are one room in the end: the same hands that pass the Envoy a story pass them a sword.
Grown by the Keeping of Fables
The Nightfold was not built, and it is not bought. It grows. Keep an Ancestor's Fable — find the quill, carry the helm, follow the rat — and their station rises from the water, stone and timber standing up out of the Silvern like a remembered thing. The Last Pensive raised Orlick's study. The Steelsinger raised Tuvalkane's forge. Brewer of Hues set Verminia's cauldron steaming, and The Wreck of Mestra Carmo, come with Preludes 14, gave the duelist her berth. All of these are playable now, in the Preludes 15 build.
The living world grows in it too. When the Waste Bear was cleansed, the Arbearer's gift took root at the fold: the Wise Elm, which bears Wevetseeds for the Envoy's far travels. And there is music in the timbers — play the right song on the Fipple Flute within the Nightfold, and the fold spirits its keeper away to the Eternium Gardens. A house that answers a flute is no dead stone.
Where the Record Keeps a Gap
Of the Nightfold's own beginning the sources say almost nothing — the wiki-keepers write plainly that little is known of its lore, and this Pensive will not embroider what they left bare. One hint stands at its core: a hollowed World Tree, which some read as kinship with the Fey. The record carries the hint. It does not carry the claim.
Where the fold truly lies is likewise unwritten. The Fey are said to have withdrawn to Eldveil, which may sit upon the Silvern Sea or in another pocket of existence entirely — the same silver waters, perhaps, that hide this sanctuary. The official page asks its own question and leaves it standing: 'Who will find the Silvern Seas and awaken our Ancestors?' Until an answer is played, the gap stays open. Soulframe is yet in its Preludes; wet clay is not carved.
