Tempest Bayor

Every Envoy's arm runs blue, old as Alcan stone; his runs scarlet, and it carries the enemy's banner.

A Raven Where the Sparrow Should Be

The Ode do not only break what they cannot use. What they can use, they keep. A Tempest is their word for a kept Envoy: a blueblood hollowed by their Spellsong and set to the invader's work. Of these the record can name two. One was cast from the Skytowers and washed ashore on Midrath to become the Envoy of these Fables. The other is Bayor.

His pact arm runs partly scarlet. The Wazzard of Wastes hints the colour is the price of murder; the record holds that as a hint, no more. Where a sparrow keeps the Envoy's shoulder, a raven keeps his. And the storyboards glimpsed in the Juniper Echo Stones tell the oldest wound plainly: it was Bayor who took the Envoy as a child.

The Collector and the Runt

The Shewolf Snared

Play The Shewolf Snared — in the game since Preludes 8, playable today in Preludes 15 — and you will meet his hand before his face. The quest itself gives warning: to save her brood from bayor's Collector is a feat befitting an Envoy. Three pups the Envoy saves. The fourth, the runt Nightling, is carried up to a Skytower.

The Fable closes on him there: an armoured figure petting a stolen wolf-pup. 'Who's a good girl?' It is the gentlest line the enemy has yet spoken, and the record keeps no crueller one.

A Seed for the Sovereign

The Waste Bear

The Waste Bear grants one vision more, and here the record must step carefully, for the vision itself does not. Deep in the Neath'uns, the Waste Bear's sap-breath throws the Envoy into a Skytower memory — into Bayor's own place, wearing his likeness, carrying a Wevetseed of the deep forest to Lord Synod. Synod forces the supplicant to grovel and demands one thing only: the Empress. The seed is held out; chains drag the kneeler away. Whether that figure is Bayor remembered or the Envoy themselves, no source will yet say — the record keeps the doubt, as the hearth's own chroniclers do.

One thread hangs older still. Among the Founders' relics is the greatsword called The Paragon, and a threat etched upon its blade: 'Return to Bayor.' Whether the blade was once his and the threat his own mark, or another Envoy's warning aimed at him, no source will say. Where the sources are silent, the record keeps a gap.

Named Before the Naming

Before Digital Extremes ever spoke his name aloud, the hearth had guessed it. On the official forums, in the thread on the Empress's betrayal, the Envoy called BlackthornMagus set concept art beside the Shewolf's Fable and named the pup-thief: Tempest Bayor — reading, from the arm that matched the Ode Tempest pact, a former Envoy now enslaved by the Ode. That was theory then, and the record would have filed it as theory. It is theory no longer; let the sleuthing be credited.

At TennoCon 2026 — Devstream 16, the eleventh of July — Digital Extremes confirmed the shape of it and more: Warsongs, a new Fable quest arriving in the fall of 2026, with Bayor as its antagonist, a rare red-armed Envoy sided with the Ode, raven in tow, voiced by Ben Starr — a casting first whispered in Devstream 15. The Empress of Eldveil enters the game in the same telling, and is said to know more of Bayor than she admits. How this Warsongs answers the elder opening Fable that shares its name, no source yet says. Come autumn, Envoy, this page will be the fuller for it.
